The first handsets released by the Open Handset Alliance will come in the fourth quarter of 2008.

According to Andy Rubin, director of mobile platforms at Google, the minimum requirements for Android handsets are 32 MB of RAM, 32 MB of flash memory, and a 200 MHz ARM 9 processor. There are companies within the Open Handset Alliance working to bring that to even lower-power phones.
